Mike Miksovsky & Melanie Galloway
Mike Miksovsky
I pay the bills as a project manager for a global financial institution and serve as a Security Forces non-commissioned officer in the Maryland Air National Guard. I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and my MBA from Mount Saint Mary's University. Raised until my teen years on Long Island, I came late in life to the Great Outdoors. In that time, I have developed an appetite for a variety of outdoor pursuits from hiking to kayaking to precision shooting. My time in the Marine Corps allowed for time in the field, but it was not until I took a job as a wilderness counselor for troubled youth that I learned how to truly enjoy the backcountry. In my years there, I was exposed to high angle ropes courses, climbing, kayaking and backpacking in a myriad of locales from Uwahrrie National Forest to Red River Gorge, Kentucky. Since leaving the mental health field ten years ago, I have made the effort to get outside as much as possible. If time allows a multi day trip, but if crunched for time a conditioning hike, running, day at the range or a quick paddle will do.
I have so many plans rattling around my dome. My pipe dream is the NOLS kayak course around Baja, but I'll need to wait until I pay for my daughter's college education before I get to that Bucket List item. In July, I will be attending a Carbine Course with Kyle Defoor, former DEVGRU SEAL and renowned shooting instructor. I have a "hook up" at the local freefall school I plan to exploit as well. As for hiking, I want to ease Melanie into true winter camping at Mt. Rogers and I have my eye on the Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana in the not so distant future. I also need to get up to speed on riding a horse for our trip to Ireland for an unguided tour of the coast.
