I was born and raised in Central Florida where I spend my summers under any shade I can find. I prefer elevation so I kill lunch breaks plotting ways to sneak off for a long weekend and trail blaze in the Southeastern US. Growing up, I knew I wanted kids and I told anyone that would listen that my plan was to have 2 boys. For some reason, which usually does not happen, God agreed and he blessed me and my trophy wife with two little hobbits. Both of my boys love the outdoors like a fat kid loves cake. At 4 and 6 they are ready to start logging a few miles with the old man.
I’ve been a stand-up comic for about 13 years now too. I quit working the road early in my career since I wanted to be an active and participating father. I still do it part time but just to get it out of my system. However, always looking to exploit the humor in any situation has given me a skewed perspective on life. The two places I feel the most at home are on the stage and on the trail. Naturally, the two worlds collide in my writing. My boys participate in Cub Scouts, Soccer and Baseball. We’re just now starting to travel the Sunshine state and I plan to chronicle all of our adventures. I’m hoping next summer to get them out to Table Rock South Carolina. I’ve been there twice with some dudes and the views are breath taking. Eventually we’ll get up to Tennessee where I spent the best 3 days outdoors I’ve ever had in my life at Fall Creek Falls State Park. The highlight being the day trip to Cummins Falls before it was a state park. As a goal, I plan to hike the John Muir Trail in its entirety when my oldest graduates from high school roughly 12 years from now. I can’t think of a better way for show a culmination of manhood and brotherhood then to traverse something of its magnitude together as men. But, we’ll start a little closer to home since I’m not sure it’s legally (or morally) right to expect a 4 year old to hike over 200 miles straight through. Plus his pack would consist of Lightning McQueen cars and Ninja Turtles. I’m all for Michelangelo the party dude joining us but only if he’s pulling his own weight. |
