We all have to eat. And we all need proper utensils to do so. Recently I had to pick up a new set, namely because this is the number one thing constantly lose out of all my gear. So i purchased the Sea to Summit 7075-T6 Aircraft Alloy Alpha Light two piece Spork and Knife set. Weighing in at just over half an ounce and with a mini-carabiner, I hope to not lose this set anytime soon. I certain I would bend or damage the set, they are virtually indestructible! I am certain many pics of us eating great food provided by America's Rafting Company will be fourth coming! Keep Hiking Forward Scott

Want to keep up with where in the world Hiking Forward is while on Hell Hike and Raft?
Thanks to a team member SPOT we are offering the link below (click on the Where in the World logo) to track out movements though the Seven Devils and Hells Canyon. Keep in mind data won't start flowing on the map till September 2md, 2014. I recently purchased a SPOT and will use this image again to alert readers when they can check in and find out Where in the World is Hiking Forward. Keep Hiking Forward Scott Today I used both of these items. And as you can visibly see in the video below... the steam and humidity in the air, today was for sure the day to try out clothing that will hopefully make one more comfortable in these kinds of conditions. Just to let you all know it was 95 plus and the humidity was just off the charts. While I hope we don't experience temps like this in Idaho, knowing that these articles do as advertised in Illinois conditions makes me confident moving forward. First, the REI AirFlyte Shirt, a value indeed. Its vented sides and back allow for maximum airflow to keep you dry and when wet allows the shirt to dry quickly. Unlike some wicking shirts that allow sweat to build up this shirt kept me cool and smelling fresh even in very warm and humid temps today. Underwear, we all wear it on trail. However the real question is does your underwear help or hinder your trail experience and performance. I will admit I am new to EXOFFICIO. I have only heard the best of comments and reviews on all their products. And, now I know why! I may have to clean out the underwear drawer and only wear these from now on. Its like night and day. I can't believe I am talking about underwear on my site. But, I truly believe this is one of those things that can make or break a trip for some when it comes to comfort and overall experience. We always see "that" person hiking in jeans or cotton. We never see what is underneath. What is underneath can cause just as much irritation and or require more pairs which increases weight and decreases the overall experience. I have purchased two pairs of EXOFFICIO Give and Go Boxers and I wish I would have bought ten! More to come on both of these products after Hell Hike and Raft. Keep Hiking Forward Scott We all need one thing while on trail. Water! How we get it and clean it may be different from one another. But, one thing is for certain we are looking for an easier and more cost effective way of turning natural water in to clean drinkable water. My fellow outdoor nuts I give you the Potable Aqua Electrolytic Water Purifier. While, not on the market yet, I am testing the unit as part of my ambassadorship with Potable Aqua. Compared to filters and other devices which require either manual pumping or are limited on the amount of water you can purify, the PURE is in a league of it's own. Utilizing a provided USB plug to power the device you can purifier 150 liters of water on one charge. Run out of juice? No problem! On the back of the PURE is a solar panel to also charge it when the power gets low. A solar panel? Did I stutter? No! A solar Panel! As mentioned before, filters only last so long and the cost a ton of money. The PURE will last for 60,000 liters of water purification. Stay tune for a full review after I return from Idaho! Keep Hiking Forward Scott Today we are featuring another sponsor provided piece of gear. On any good expedition you need a good tent. Who but none other then Teton Sports to the rescue to outfit all of us with awesome tents from their new Mountain Ultra line. My tent is the Mountain Ultra 1. This one person tent will serve as my castle while on Hell Hike and Raft. With plenty of space inside and in the gear vestibule, it will ensure me and my gear won't be cramped for space. This large single person tent has the following specs:
Stayed tuned for a full review of this and the other sponsored items when we all return from Idaho. Keep Hiking Forward Scott Hell Hike and Raft as I have said before is going to be an epic and most amazing adventure. So, you have to document the heck out of it and in order to do that you need camera equipment. Well, camera equipment and other items require power. So to charge all of my devices (which I will post later in the week) I purchased the Goal Zero Nomad 13 Panel & Sherpa 50 Power Pack. Overkill some might say. But I see more uses for this baby then just for my backpacking and camping excursions. This unit gives you the capability to charge 110 with the extra power inverter and laptops if necessary. I intend to use this to charge the Canon DSLR battery, GoPro, IPod Shuffle and Phone. I have the potential to also daisy chain other members Goal Zero panels to the Sherpa 50 to decrease how long it takes to charge the unit for others to use if necessary. Stay tuned for the post trip review on how the Sherpa 50 and the panel worked. Keep Hiking Forward Scott What better piece of equipment could you have then a trail family? Eleven of your new best friends who bring a wealth of knowledge, a diverse adventuring background and experience to your table, what else could you ask for? For one of them to be a wine connoisseur? No problem, we got one in the family! One of the most exciting things for me about this trip is knowing that am automatically inheriting a trail family from day one. No development, no searching or wondering when the serendipitous moment might happen on trail and for the family to appear here. "La Familia" as we have been calling ourselves socially leading up to the trip sets ourselves up for an amazing collective and singular experience. I wouldn't have this trip happen any other way, and no store can offer the type intangibles that my new family will offer me over the course of this most epic adventure. These intangibles will ensure that this will be the adventure of a life time and I will have them to take for it in the end, not a bunch of actual tangible gear. Stay tuned as we continue to count down to Hell Hike and Raft as showcase other important items of gear for the trip. Keep Hiking Forward Scott Not your typical piece of backpacking gear, but this isn't your typical adventure. We intend to backpack half of the trip and white water raft the second half. In order to keep my camera (Canon T3i DSLR) dry, safe and impact free during the white water portion I wanted to ensure that my camera was safe and had an extra layer of hardened protection. Pelican is an amazing product. I have used their stuff for years for work and never had an issue and the product always stands up to taking a beating from shippers. I trust that my camera and my memory cards will stay dry and safe throughout the wettest portion of the trip so that I can take pictures and video throughtout the whole trip. Stay tuned for how it works! Keep Hiking Forward Scott Day fourteen's product is a sponsored product that each team member will receive to use while on Hell Hike and Raft, Hike Goo from Foot Kinetics. Use prior to lacing up and it promises to significantly limit the hot spots and nasty blisters that one tends to get especially on long hikes. I started using HikeGoo, a few years back after winning a tube of it from an online raffle. I love this stuff! Since using HikeGoo I have not succumbed to any nasty blisters and my hikes have been largely pain free in respect to foot hot spots. Available on Amazon and other fine online retailers, and worth every penny if you get to truly experience your hike pain and blister free. Check it out! Keep Hiking Forward! Scott Today marks just fifteen days until Hell Hike and Raft. In order to properly mark each day as we count down to a one of a kind epic adventure, I will be highlighting some of the new gear I have either acquired myself in preparation for the expedition or some of the gear we as team members have been given to test while in Hells Canyon, Idaho. Today is day one of the fifteen days of gear. Enjoy and stay tuned here to check out the next two week of awesome gear. Keep Hiking Forward! Scott |
